Though Sharav did not care for clothes, he used to get so proud whenever he got to wear his fancy Kelty dog backpack with two saddlebags.
Sometimes I would pack it full of his gear and my gear and let him carry our stuff to the beach in Tel Aviv, or to Golden Gate Park or Central Park.
Other times, I would put a one-liter bottle of water in each saddlebag, to weigh him down and give him extra hard exercise on our long walks, and he loved carrying that completely unnecessary weight. Working dogs really do want to be given jobs!
