Many people advised me to obtain false paperwork that would identify Sharav as an “emotional support animal” so he would be able to fly with me in airplane cabins when we traveled, and so I would not have to pay a fee for him, but even if I had been inclined to break the airlines’ rules, he never would have gone along with it!
Without any doubt, he would have spent the whole journey playing with everyone else on the plane, wagging his tail, licking, cuddling, generally being a distraction, and doing everything else that an actual “emotional support animal” is not supposed to do.
In any event, he flew on airplanes nine times in the cargo hold, and was fine every time:
- 2010: Tel Aviv to Paris, Paris to Washington DC, Washington DC to Paris, Paris to Tel Aviv
- 2011: Tel Aviv to Frankfurt, Frankfurt to Washington DC, Washington DC to San Francisco
- 2017: New York to Seattle
- 2018: Seattle to Washington DC
