In 2011, a Malinois named Cairo killed Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan, and for a minute, Malinois dogs were all the rage – everyone knew about them and asked about Sharav’s military background… which was about as extensive as my military background.
The hype peaked again briefly when the Malinois breed was declared “in” for 2012 (replacing Boston terriers, which were “out”), but soon, obscurity returned and people went back to asking me if Sharav was a German shepherd.
