Many people were surprised to learn that Sharav did not bark. Technically, it’s not true that he never, ever, ever barked. I heard him doing it a few times, chiefly at my parents’ home in suburban Maryland, where the neighborhood was so sterile and still that a passing car must have seemed to him like a highly unusual intruder.
Generally, though, my position was that an urban dog who lived in an apartment (that did not even allow dogs) could not be a barker if it was going to work out on a long term basis, so I expressed extreme displeasure with barking, and he accommodated my wishes.
