Sharav was not a popular name among my fellow dog people in Tel Aviv, or even comprehensible as a name.

The term had another connotation and, as I was informed early and often, a proper dog’s name should be a regular person’s name, preferably western, such as “George” or “Henry” – at least among the Rothschild Boulevard and Dubnov Park people who also had strong opinions about negative reinforcement. Americans had an altogether different reaction.
